  • This one day course enables teachers, school leaders and teaching support staff in primary schools to develop a professional mind-set which places LEARNING at the centre of all practice in the classroom. It can be provided as a delegate course, an in-school course, within a local authority or within a school cluster or academy chain.
  • Putting learning first in all discussions, observations, evaluation, professional development and performance management moves thinking away from a preoccupation with teaching as ‘a performance’ towards a clear and unequivocal focus on the provision of the very best of well high quality learning opportunities for all pupils in the school’s care.
  • Changing the professional focus in classrooms and across the school frees colleagues to develop as reflective, proactive practitioners, equipped with the understanding and skills to evaluate and improve learning and develop their expertise.
  • Using the Ofsted criteria for teaching as a starting point for evaluating learning and the effective teaching that brings it about, participants will also consider outstanding learning and what this will look like in their school.
  • Valuable time will also be given to reflection and consideration of personal practice and specific ways in which colleagues can work together to further improve learning and teaching in their school.
  • The course will be delivered in an interactive style – plenty of opportunities for participation, discussion and sharing! Using pertinent lesson observation clips will bring context to discussions.
  • This is not a course for those who are seeking the ‘top ten tips for effective learning’ – but more for those who want to transform the professional mind-set across teaching and learning staff and secure a focus on high quality learning in the school.
